How to object to Meta using your data for AI

Some steps required · Last verified July 2026

Meta uses public posts, photos and comments from Facebook and Instagram to train its AI models. There is no simple switch — you have to file an objection.

  1. Open Settings → Privacy Centre on Facebook or Instagram.
  2. Find the AI / “data subject rights for third-party information” section.
  3. Submit the objection form, stating that you object to your information being used for generative AI.
  4. Users in the EU and UK generally get automatic approval; elsewhere results vary.
  5. Setting posts to private limits future scraping but does not undo past training.
