How to remove yourself from Slack

Some steps required · Last verified July 2026

Slack messages belong to the workspace, not you — the workspace owner controls whether your messages are retained after you leave.

  1. Deactivating your account removes access but leaves your messages visible.
  2. Ask the workspace owner to delete your messages if you need them gone — only they can request it.
  3. To delete your Slack profile entirely, leave all workspaces, then delete your Slack account from account settings.
  4. Direct messages remain visible to the other participant.
